Favre is in Which Bay, Again?
Update: And the winner is…the Jets! Wait, what!?
Well, the saga continues. Apparently, the sources that reported Favre would compete for the starting QB job were, shall we say, uninformed. Favre left the stadium yesterday just as practice was to get underway. That is never a good sign.
The latest reports coming out of Green Bay are that Favre is ready to accept a trade to the Bucs. For me this is bittersweet news. I love the Bucs. I have been rooting for them since the Dungy days and would love to see Favre play for them. But Favre, in my mind, is a Packer. The cognitive dissonance of seeing Favre in another uniform (even for a team I love) is too much. My brain just won’t compute.
I can’t believe the way that Green Bay has handled this. I know that they had to make some calls and choices that will affect things down the road, but come on! What is the point of the game? I thought it was get to, and then win, the Superbowl. You know that with Favre you have a shot at the Superbowl. You were almost there last year…thanks to Favre.
What they are saying now is that he isn’t good enough to get them there again. Say what? Given the choice between the proven performer, and the unproven future I say you have to take Favre. I’m not trying to say that Rodgers is a bad QB, in fact, I have been impressed with how he has been able to come off the bench and perform well on the few occasions he has. But that is not the same thing as being the starting QB.
I don’t understand this obligation to Rodgers that Green Bay management has shown. Just because he has been waiting to take over and you signed him as the heir to the All Mighty Favre doesn’t mean anything. Who cares. You just picked up two more back-up QBs who can take over after Rodgers storms out in a huff after his contract expires this season. Make one of the heir to the throne and concentrate on getting to the Superbowl this year. This is just idiotic.
