New MBPs
Yesterday Apple quietly updated my next computer. Despite all the rumors of a case mod these are still the same lovely case we have had for a while now. But they now come with Intel Core 2 Duos at speeds of 2.16 GHz or 2.33 GHz. Apple is claiming 39% performance increase over previous MacBook Pros.
In addition to the faster processor, the new models sport the newer 120 GB hard drives standard (160 GB on the 17”) and have doubled the RAM from the previous editions. That means the base model gets 1 GB and the two top end units get 2 GB all have a max of 3 GB of RAM now.
Apple also closed the feature parity gap between the 15” and 17” versions by including FW 800 on all models and updating the SuperDrive on the 15” models to a 6x Dual Layer Drive. Now the only advantage of the 17” is the larger screen, an extra USB 2.0 port (three versus two), the larger HD, and an 8x (vs. 6x) SuperDrive.
Did I mention that you get all of this for the same price as the last models? Well you do. Man I need one of these. Badly.
